Rob Lukemeyer III

R3 Head Shot WebEach month, ICBR honors one of its members as Member of the Month. This month, we recognize ICBR member Rob Lukemeyer III. Rob is Executive Vice President at Baseline, Inc, and has a BA in Economics from Indiana University.

ICBR: Why are you an ICBR member?

Lukemeyer: ICBR focuses on quality education, networking and providing a multitude of member benefits. Among many other resources, access to ICREX and a database of contracts have been most beneficial to me. In combination with the legislative focus, every broker can find value.

ICBR: How did you start your career in commercial real estate?

Lukemeyer: Long story short, real estate runs in my blood. I began work in the residential property management sector and it grew into commercial opportunities. Since that time, I have focused my complete attention on the commercial brokerage aspect, but the management experience that I gained laid a great foundation to understanding future clients’ properties and goals.

ICBR: Do you have any mentors? If so, who? How has he/she inspired you?

Lukemeyer: Without question, my dad. He has always approached life with a sense of honesty and respect, wrapped in a blanket of positivity. Not only is he genuine and hardworking, but he remembers to have a little fun along the way. I often hear people say, “You are so similar to your father.” They don’t realize that it is the greatest compliment I could receive.

ICBR: What is the most important thing you have learned by working in commercial real estate?

Lukemeyer: Patience. Deals take time. Clients need time. Each individual client will require different timing based on financing, board/partner approvals, even political and economic landscapes. There is a time for urgency and a time for patience; differentiating between the two is an important lesson.

ICBR: Current professional goal(s)?

Lukemeyer: I am currently working towards earning my CCIM designation. The education can be intense and a bit overwhelming, similar to taking a drink from a fire hose. That being said, the financial and market analysis skills for investment real estate are second to none. I intend to complete the education and submit my experience portfolio by 2014.

ICBR: Special interests/hobbies?

Lukemeyer: I have always enjoyed traveling, both within and outside the US. From walking the coasts of New Zealand to back-yard weddings in Arizona, these experiences have help me become accepting of other cultures. As I grow older and more engrained in my career, these experiences have also reminded me to remain grateful for my family and home in Indianapolis.
